One of Ireland’s most popular environment advocates, Éanna Ní Lamhna will be in Ennis on Thursday next (23rd June) to address a special Green Fleadh Business Seminar.
Ms. Ní Lamhna is a long-standing member of the panel of experts on RTÉ’s wildlife programme ‘Mooney goes Wild’, and one of the most instantly recognisable voices on Irish radio.
The well-known educator and environmental consultant said she is “delighted” there is recognition in Ennis that an event like Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, which will attract 400,000 visitors to the town, can have a “considerable impact” on the environment.
“The local business communities, together with the Local Authorities are to be warmly congratulated for taking steps to ensure that it will be a Green Fleadh. This means that they are putting measures in place to ensure that waste is segregated and recycled, and that energy and water use are minimised, thus reducing the carbon footprint and ensuring that the environment is protected. So well done all round,” Ms. Ní Lamhna said.
One of the initiatives developed by the Green Fleadh Team is the Green Fleadh Business Programme. This initiative is a partnership approach with the Environment Section of Clare County Council working in conjunction with the local business community, Green Business programme, Clean Technology Centre, Limerick Clare Energy Agency, Southern Region Waste Management Office and the EPA Local Authority Prevention Network.
All businesses serving the Fleadh including the hospitality, the retail and transportation sector are invited to attend the Green Fleadh Business Seminar on Thursday next at the Temple Gate Hotel from 3-5 pm to learn about this programme. They will also be invited to sign up to the Green Fleadh Business Programme.
Speakers will include James Hogan from the Green Business Programme who will provide advice on how to take “No Cost” measures to reduce utility costs - energy, waste and water. Green Business has demonstrated that small business can save thousands of euro each year by being more aware of costs.
Welcoming the Green Fleadh Business Seminar, Comhaltas committee Chairman, Mícheál Ó Riabhaigh said that Ennis has an “enviable reputation in the National Tidy Towns Competition and Comhaltas is committed to caring for the environment at Fleadhanna Cheoil which are now attracting increasing numbers of visitors.”
